On August 19, 1965, Marion Glass opened his first pizza restaurant at 460 Patterson Road in Dayton, Ohio. One of Dayton’s first full-service pizzerias, Marion’s Piazza quickly gained a devoted following. With an outdoor café vibe brought indoors, Marion dubbed his restaurant a “piazza” to reflect its Italian courtyard aesthetic.
Marion introduced thin-crust, square-cut pizza—now known as “Dayton-style” pizza. Using only the finest ingredients, Marion’s became a local favorite and has since grown to nine locations. Committed to quality food and service, Marion’s has been rated “Dayton's #1 pizza” since the 1980s.
Dine-in experiences have always been central to Marion’s Piazza, hosting cast parties, sports teams, birthdays, reunions, graduations, and anniversaries. A longstanding partnership with Kenley Players Summer Theater (1966–1995) brought Hollywood stars to Dayton and Marion’s, including Frankie Avalon, Mickey Rooney, Joel Gray, and Sally Field. Dayton natives Rob Lowe and Martin Sheen remain loyal patrons. Henry Winkler drew the largest crowd in 1975 when over 2,000 people made reservations to see him.
Founder Marion Glass led the company for over 40 years until his passing in 2006. His son Roger Glass succeeded Marion in leading the company until his passing in 2022. The Glass Family continues to own and operate Marion’s Piazza today, with Carol Glass Pollock serving as President and Kathi Glass serving as Vice President.
Marion’s vision of offering each customer the best possible food and service at the best value remains the cornerstone of Marion’s philosophy. Marion’s crew members are dedicated to keeping this promise alive at all nine locations.
